Fire Razes Section Of High Court In Ilorin

Ilorin, Kwara State- A devastating fire broke out at the Ilorin High Court on Saturday, engulfing parts of the building, including courtroom No. 10.

It was gathered that the fire, which originated from a standing air conditioner due to a power surge, quickly spread, threatening nearby courtrooms and offices within the premises.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday evening, by  Head, Media and Publicity, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, through the Director Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John.

The statement read, “On Sunday, 29th September 2024, at approximately 08:02 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded swiftly to a fire outbreak at the High Court in Ilorin. The fire truck, along with its crew, promptly left the station to mitigate the unfolding incident.

“Upon arrival at the scene, where the court premises house numerous courtrooms and offices, the fire had already engulfed courtroom No. 10 and was poised to spread to adjacent court rooms.

He said undeterred by the escalating situation, the brave firemen immediately sprang into action, successfully containing the fire and saving the Ilorin High Court from significant damage.

Adekunle explained that Investigations revealed that the fire originated from a standing air conditioner due to a power surge.

Present at the scene was Alh. Rasak Jiddah, Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, who commended the firefighters for their swift and effective response.

The Chief Justice of Kwara State, Hon. Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, also commended the Fire Service for their outstanding efforts in protecting the court from destruction.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, urged the general public to remain safety conscious at all times to prevent such incidents.
