Female Student Commits Suicide Following Sudden Breakup With Lecturer Boyfriend
Jemima is said to be the only daughter of her father.
Yola, Adamawa State- Jemima Shetima Balami, a Mass Communication student at Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, committed suicide allegedly after her boyfriend declared an end to their relationship.
The 24-year-old lady, who was said to have been doing her industrial attachment at Adamawa State Television, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance after her boyfriend announced that he was no longer interested in the relationship.
It was gathered that her boyfriend is said to be a lecturer at the Modibbo Adama University, Yola and she was said to be the only daughter of her father.
The female student, who hails from Garkida, in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, died at her residence in Vinikilang, a Riverside community near the state capital, Yola.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the father of the deceased reported the matter to the police.
“The father of Jamima reported that she committed suicide by taking a deadly substance. Another version had it that she visited her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, and was told to quit the relationship. Angered by the news of exiting her boyfriend, the deceased took poison.”
Nguroje, however, said the matter would be duly investigated.
