Federal High Court Nullifies Kano State Government’s Repeal Of Emirates Council Law, Orders Of Status Quo
The judge stated that he would use his authority to ensure compliance with his order.
Kano State– The Federal High Court in Kano has overturned the Kano State government’s efforts to repeal the Kano Emirates Council Law.
Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, in his the ruling on Thursday, stated the state government’s actions invalid and ordered all parties involved to maintain the existing status quo.
The judge ruled that the defendants knew about the interim order issued by the court but decided to disregard it and proceeded with implementing the law.
The judge stated that he would use his authority to ensure compliance with his order.
Justice Liman, however, transferred the case to Justice Simon Amobeda to continue proceedings following his elevation to the Court ppeal.
Recall that the Kano House of Assembly had repealed the law enthroning the 15th Emir and establishment of additional four emirate councils – Bichi, Rano Karaye and Gaya, by the immediate past governor of the state, Dr, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had implemented the repealed law by dethroning Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano to reinstall the dethroned 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.
