Federal Government Declares Two-Day Public Holiday For Eid-ul-Fitr Celebration
In his message, the Minister extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to Muslim faithful nationwide for successfully completing the holy month of fasting.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, 19th March, and Friday, 20th March 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival that signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In his message, the Minister extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to Muslim faithful nationwide for successfully completing the holy month of fasting.
He urged Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasised during Ramadan.
He further called on all citizens to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity, while celebrating responsibly and extending acts of kindness to the less privileged.
The Minister reassured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all communities in the country.
Eid-ul-Fitr, which comes at the conclusion of Ramadan, is widely celebrated across Nigeria with communal prayers, family gatherings, and charitable acts.
