Federal Government Declares May 27, 28 Public Holidays For Eid-ul-Adha

Abuja, Nigeria– The Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, 27th May and Thursday, 28th May, 2026 as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, and conveyed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s continued recognition of the religious and cultural significance of Eid-ul-Adha to Muslim communities across the country and in the diaspora.

The Minister noted that Eid-ul-Adha remains one of Islam’s most sacred observances, symbolizing obedience, sacrifice, and compassion, urging Muslim faithful to reflect deeply on the values the festival represents.

The statement  read, “The Federal Government extends warm felicitations to all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and around the world as they celebrate this important occasion.”

Beyond the celebration, the government also used the opportunity to call for sober reflection among citizens, encouraging prayers for peace, national unity, and improved security as the country continues to grapple with multiple socio-economic challenges.

Authorities further urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of brotherhood and tolerance, stressing that national cohesion remains critical to achieving lasting peace and prosperity.

As usual during festive declarations, expectations are high for increased travel activity, family gatherings, and heightened security deployments across major cities to ensure a peaceful holiday period.

The Federal Government concluded by wishing Muslims a peaceful, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
