Federal Government Declares Friday Public Holiday For Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration

Abuja, Nigeria- The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this in a statement on Wednesday, extending warm wishes to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.
Mr. Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to embrace the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, describing them as vital for building a united and progressive nation.
He also called on citizens of all faiths to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and national development while supporting government efforts to foster unity and prosperity.
“”The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” ” the minister said.
He further advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and supportive of initiatives aimed at national stability and growth, wishing all Muslims a joyous Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
