EXCLUSIVE: Gov. AbdulRazaq’s Camp Allegedly Moves To Counter G15’s Rescheduled Rally As Fresh Tension Rocks Kwara APC — Sources

Ilorin, Kwara State– Fresh political tension has escalated within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq camp  is allegedly making fresh moves to counter the rescheduled solidarity rally of the G15 coalition, multiple sources familiar with the development have told Afrika Eyes.

The latest development comes barely 24 hours after security concerns forced the coalition to postpone its planned “Welcome Solidarity Rally,” which was originally scheduled to hold on Sunday, July 5.

The G15 is a coalition comprising 10 APC governorship aspirants, three serving senators, as well as selected members of the National Assembly and the Kwara State House of Assembly.

The bloc has emerged as one of the most influential political groups within the Kwara APC ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

According to sources, supporters loyal to Governor AbdulRazaq had hurriedly organised a separate rally for the same day the G15 event was initially scheduled to hold, with routes allegedly overlapping those earlier announced by the coalition’s organisers.

Party insiders said the situation prompted security agencies to advise organisers of the G15 rally to suspend the event to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order.

Following consultations, the coalition announced the postponement of the rally and subsequently fixed a new date for Monday.

However, multiple sources told Afrika Eyes that the governor’s camp is now allegedly planning another show of strength to coincide with the rescheduled solidarity rally.

A source familiar with the arrangements alleged that Governor AbdulRazaq has informed some of his close associates that he will arrive in Kwara on Monday and is expected to be received by a large crowd of supporters before proceeding to the Emir’s Palace on a “thank-you visit.”

“The plan is to mobilise a massive crowd to receive the governor and accompany him to the palace at the same time the G15 is expected to hold its solidarity rally,” one source familiar with the planning told Afrika Eyes.

Another party source expressed concern that the parallel mobilisation could heighten tensions within the ruling party if both camps converge in the state at the same time.

According to party insiders, the latest development has further heightened fears of a deepening crisis within the ruling APC in Kwara State, which has witnessed growing political rivalry ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

The G15 coalition consists of 10 APC governorship aspirants, three serving senators, and selected members of both the National Assembly and the Kwara State House of Assembly.

The group has repeatedly called for a more inclusive political process within the party and has consistently pushed for broader stakeholder participation in the build-up to the party’s affairs ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, as of the time of filing this report, neither the Kwara State Government nor Governor AbdulRazaq’s media aides had responded to the allegations.

Security agencies have also not issued any public statement regarding the planned activities scheduled for Monday.
