 Enugu Police Launch Investigation Into Alleged Shooting, Killing Of 28-Year-Old Man By Security Agent

Enugu State- The Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged shooting and killing of Smith Odinaka, a 28-year-old man on Sunday.

It was gathered that the incident took place around 1 a.m. near the Mercedes-Benz Company along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.

It was learnt that the deceased was driving his Mercedes-Benz with two male friends when their vehicle was struck by a gunshot, allegedly fired by individuals suspected to be security agents.

However, Odinaka sustained a serious gunshot wound to his left hip and was immediately rushed to a local hospital. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Enugu State Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said that has not yet linked the crime to any police officer or police team.

According to the statement, “CP Uzuegbu has assured the public that all necessary efforts will be made to identify and apprehend the perpetrators and to ensure that justice is served.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was driving a Mercedes-Benz car in the company of two of his male friends when a gunshot, allegedly fired by individuals suspected to be security agents, struck the vehicle.

“Smith Odinaka sustained a gunshot wound to his left hip. He was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead by the attending doctor, and his body deposited in the mortuary, pending an autopsy.

“However, contrary to circulating reports, the ongoing investigation has not yet linked the crime to any police officer or police team,” Ndukwe said.

He added that intensive investigative efforts are underway to uncover the truth, and the findings will be made public once available.
