Gusau, Zamfara State– Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma have neutralised Kachallah Dan Isihu, a notorious bandit leader responsible for years of terror across Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna states.

His elimination marks a major breakthrough in the fight against organised crime in Nigeria’s North-West.

Kachallah, a ruthless warlord, orchestrated deadly raids, mass kidnappings, and cattle rustling while imposing illegal taxes on villages.

Meanwhile, his criminal empire extended beyond local banditry—he played a key role in the infamous Kaduna train attack, allegedly receiving ₦800 million in ransom.

Security expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the operation via his X handle on Thursday, revealing that military forces tracked Kachallah to a fortified camp in Zamfara.

A coordinated assault, involving elite ground troops and aerial bombardments, led to his fatal injuries. He later succumbed in Danjibga forest along with dozens of his fighters.

Kachallah’s operations were reinforced by an alliance with Ado Alero, another wanted bandit leader with a ₦5 million bounty on his head.

His reign of terror intensified during Ramadan, with reports suggesting he killed at least one person daily as part of a so-called “personal obligation.”

In the weeks leading up to his death, Kachallah orchestrated multiple attacks, including: “A twin assault on Tsafe town, killing the local government security chief and vigilante members.

“Daily ambushes along the Tsafe-Yankara highway, targeting travelers in up to seven attacks per day and coordinated raids on rural communities, burning homes, and displacing entire villages.

Military officers involved in the mission described the final battle as a four-day operation that forced Kachallah’s men into disarray.

“We knew the battle was over when his men started fleeing,” a military source stated.

The Nigerian military has vowed to sustain its offensive against criminal elements in the region, ensuring that Kachallah’s network does not regroup.

His downfall has brought a sense of relief to residents, but security forces remain on high alert to prevent further insurgent activities.
