Abuja, Nigeria- Operatives from the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two Chinese nationals, Wang Jiang and Wang Richard, along with two Nigerians, Donatus Agupusi and Michael Benneth Agu, for illegal dealings in solid minerals.

Jiang was intercepted at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, while Richard and two Nigerian accomplices, Donatus Agupusi and Michael Benneth Agu, were apprehended at the EFCC’s Enugu office.

In a statement released on Friday, by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, disclosed that the arrests followed a tip-off from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which led to Jiang’s interception at the airport on November 3, 2024.

According to Oyewale, “Preliminary investigations into the matter revealed that Agupusi, owner of Great Wall Construction Limited, is the employer of the remaining suspects. Investigation also revealed that Jiang was attempting to travel out of the country with the solid minerals in order to carry out some tests on them in China.

“Investigations further revealed that none of the four suspects had a permit to export the solid minerals to China.
Oyewale added that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
