EFCC Grills ‘Fake Lawyer’ Over Forged NBA Seal in Lagos
Anoruo admitted to procuring the fake seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
Ikeja, Lagos State– Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have begun grilling a suspected impostor, John Anoruo, for allegedly using a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal to carry out legal activities in Lagos.
The suspect, who reportedly runs a legal and educational consultancy outfit in the Ikorodu area of the state, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the anti-graft agency in Ikoyi.
According to findings, Anoruo’s troubles began after he submitted a petition dated September 22, 2025, to the EFCC on behalf of certain clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
However, investigations by the Commission uncovered that the petition, as well as a subsequent Letter of Withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, carried a forged NBA seal.
The agency disclosed that upon interrogation, Anoruo admitted to procuring the fake seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
Further probing revealed that the 55-year-old suspect is not a qualified legal practitioner. Although he claimed to have obtained a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2018 through evening classes, he reportedly failed to attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for legal practice in the country.
Operating under the guise of a lawyer, Anoruo allegedly misled unsuspecting clients while presenting himself as a certified member of the legal profession.
The EFCC said investigations are ongoing, adding that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
