Benin, Edo State – The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Iyayi Omokaro, for allegedly hacking his elder brother, 38-year-old Friday Omokaro, to death during a violent altercation in Uzalla Community, Uhunmwode Local Government Area.

CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, revealing that officers at the Ahor Division received a distress call on March 25 at about 3:30 p.m. from residents reporting the fatal attack.

Police operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes, rushed to the scene and found Friday Omokaro lying in a pool of blood with deep machete wounds.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was later pronounced dead.

A bloodstained cutlass, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the brothers had engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a violent confrontation, during which Iyayi allegedly struck his elder brother multiple times with the machete.

The suspect, who was taken into custody immediately, reportedly confessed to the crime.

CSP Yamu assured the public that justice would be served and reiterated the police command’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Edo State.
