DSS Raises Alarm Over Plot To Kidnap Farmers In Kwara, Warns Of Impending Food Security Threat

The warning, addressed to the Commissioner of Police at the State Command Headquarters in Ilorin,  highlights an emerging security threat targeting farming settlements on the outskirts of Lema, Ndeji, and Gbugbu communities.

Ilorin, Kwara State —Fresh intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS) has uncovered a disturbing plot by suspected bandits to intensify the kidnapping of farmers across vulnerable communities in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The warning, addressed to the Commissioner of Police at the State Command Headquarters in Ilorin,  highlights an emerging security threat targeting farming settlements on the outskirts of Lema, Ndeji, and Gbugbu communities.

According to the intelligence report, obtained by Afrika Eyes, the planned attacks are being orchestrated by notorious bandit leaders identified as Auta-Ilorin and Siddi Dan-Kano.

The criminal elements are reportedly mobilising to launch coordinated abductions aimed at forcing farmers to abandon their farmlands.

However, the move is a direct retaliation against ongoing military operations that have significantly disrupted banditry and other criminal activities in the region.

The report noted that the planned disruption of farming activities is a calculated response to sustained security offensives, warning that such actions could cripple agricultural productivity and worsen food insecurity if not urgently addressed.

In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, the State Director of Security, J.S. Adams, urged immediate reinforcement of security presence in identified flashpoints.

The statement read, “Intelligence indicate plans by bandits led by AUTA-ILORIN and Siddi DAN-KANO, to intensify kidnapping of farmers at farm settlements at the outskirt of Lema, Ndeji and th Gbugbu Communities, Edu Local Government Area (LGA). This developinent would cause the farmers to abdicate activities in the communities

“The planned disruption of farming activities is retaliation to the ongoing Military operations frustrating banditry and other criminal vices.

“In view, it is suggested that security operation be extended to vulnerable communities to forestall any untoward development and enhance public safety.
