DSS Raises Alarm Over Imminent ISWAP Attacks In Ondo, Kogi States

Akure, Ondo State– The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued an intelligence alert warning of imminent attacks by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) targeting communities in Ondo and Kogi States.
According to a confidential memo dated October 20, 2025, and signed by H.I. Kana J. on behalf of the State Director of Security, intelligence reports confirmed that ISWAP operatives are planning coordinated assaults on several communities across the two states.
The DSS identified Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area, as well as Owo town in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, among the key locations under threat.
The intelligence also indicated that the terrorist group had commenced surveillance on potential soft targets in these areas.
The security agency therefore urged heightened vigilance and proactive measures across all affected communities to prevent any possible attack.
“The groups have commenced surveillance on potential soft targets in the above-mentioned locations. Consequently, there is a need to scale up the level of security alertness in the various communities to forestall any untoward situation,” the memo stated.
The DSS communicated the warning to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Owena Cantonment, Akure, for immediate action and collaboration to secure the identified communities.
