Driver Arrested For Stabbing LASTMA Officer 

After his arrest, dangerous weapons cutlass and knife were recovered from his commercial Volkswagen

Lagos- Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police have arrested a driver with a yellow Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus with registration number LSR 966 YE. The driver allegedly stabbed one of the officers after being apprehended for a serious traffic offence near the Costain Round-About in the Surulere area of Lagos.

LASTMA officer Olajide Olukoga, also known as ‘Bravo,’ led the enforcement team responsible for the arrest.

Olukoga said that the commercial bus driver was impounded and detained for picking up passengers on the main expressway, causing severe traffic disruptions for other road users around the Costain area, heading towards Iponrin.

He further explained that the enforcement operation took place around the Costain roundabout, heading towards Iponrin, following numerous warnings by the state government to commercial bus and private car drivers. These warnings emphasized the importance of using designated bus stops when picking up or dropping off passengers or co-travellers throughout the state.

“Our enforcement team had successful apprehended the driver while trying to escape after dangerous driving, brought out a knife and stabbed me in the process. After seeing the deep cut he had inflicted on me with the knife, he decided to strip himself naked and caused serious commotions before he was eventually arrested by Policemen from Iponri Police Station.

The General Manager, LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, who confirmed the incident, vowed that the suspected assailant would be prosecuted immediately to serve as a deterrent to other recalcitrant drivers.
