Asaba, Delta State – The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old woman, Princess Okolie, and her boyfriend for orchestrating a fake kidnapping and demanding a N2 million ransom from her parents.

According to a statement by SP Edafe Bright, the police spokesperson, Mrs Okolie Joy, Princess’s mother, reported the incident on January 2, 2025.

She stated that her daughter left their home on December 30, 2024, and failed to return.

However, the following day, Mrs. Joy received a distressing phone call from an alleged kidnapper claiming her daughter had been abducted and demanding N2 million for her release.

Upon receiving the report, the police launched an investigation. Their findings revealed that the alleged abduction was a ploy masterminded by Princess Okolie and her boyfriend to extort money from her family.

SP Bright noted that both suspects have been arrested and are in police custody, where they are assisting with further investigations.

‘’The Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda immediately directed the command’s special Anti-kidnapping and cyber-crime squad to ensure that the victim was rescued unhurt and the suspect arrested.

The commander of special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad CSP Labe Joseph detailed operatives who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation.

The other suspect, Prince Atigbi, was arrested after collecting a ransom of two million naira (#2,000,000).

“Upon the arrest of the suspect, he stated that he was not an actual kidnapper but was playing the script of his girlfriend Princess Okolie.

“The girl was arrested, and she said that she faked her kidnap so that they could get money from her parent. Both suspects are in custody, the ransom money recovered and the investigation is ongoing.’

“The Commissioner of Police urges parents and guardians to take the upbringing of their children seriously and in the ways of God so that when they grow up, they won’t be a problem to their parents and society. ‘’Edafe added.
