Court Strikes Out Treason Charges Against Sowore, Bakare, Orders Return Of Passport

Abuja, Nigeria– A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday struck out the treasonable felony charges against Omoyele Sowore, the prominent Nigeria activist and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement.
The presiding judge Justice Emeka Nwite, on Monday, ordered the secret police, Department of State Services (DSS) to release Sowore’s three mobile phones, passport, and the sum of N10,000 seized from him.
Meanwhile, a notice of discontinuance was filed by the Nigerian government through the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.

It would be recalled that in August 2019, the DSS arrested Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, for their involvement in planning a protest called #RevolutionNow.
They faced allegations of treason and plotting to overthrow ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
