Court Orders Restraint On Police from Arresting Kano Anti-Graft Agency Chairman

Judge Issues Temporary Relief After Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado’s Arrest and Detention by Police

Kano State– A Kano State High Court has issued an order preventing the Nigeria Police Force from arresting or detaining Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), after he was recently arrested and interrogated by police.

The restraining order was granted following a lawsuit filed by the Attorney General of Kano State, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Rimingado himself, against the police authorities, including the Inspector General of Police and the Kano State Commissioner of Police.

The case stems from Rimingado’s detention on Friday evening at the Zone 1 Police Headquarters in Kano, where he was questioned for several hours before being granted bail late at night.

Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji issued the order on Monday, following an ex parte motion filed by Rimingado’s counsel, supported by a six-paragraph affidavit.

The court has set February 2, 2025, as the date for a hearing on the motion on notice, which will address the matter further.

The order temporarily shields Rimingado from further police actions, including a previously scheduled reporting session at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, allowing him a temporary reprieve pending the next court hearing.

Rimingado’s detention by the police has raised concerns, especially in light of his role in the anti-corruption fight within the state.
