Chevening Partner With Kwara Govt To Provide Scholarship Opportunities For Youths

The current administration has identified and contributed immensely to the growth and development of education sector

The British High Commission, through its Chevening, partner with the Kwara State Government, organized a one-day seminar for young people on Wednesday to encourage as many qualified Kwarans as possible to apply for the Chevening Scholarships.

The Chevening is a UK Government’s global scholarship programme funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations.

The scholarships support study at UK universities, mostly one year taught master’s degrees for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, highly represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education Science and Technology, Doctor Azeez Alabi Abolore, who appreciate the organizers of this programme chevening scholarship and the Government of United Kingdom for extending this opportunity to our dear state of Harmony.

AbdulRazaq said, chevening records of acheivements spanning almost four decades has brought exceptional professionals from around the world to study in the United Kingdom through scholarship and fellowship

According to him, Kwara State Government under the current administration has identified and contributed immensely to the growth and development of education sector in the state.

“The Government of Kwara State in its effort at securing and investing in the next generation has engaged public and private sector education leaders, thinkers and relevant stakeholders through interactive session, summit and workshops of this nature with a view to exploring the future of education as central to the Kwara State Government’s Agenda for growth and development.

“Despite the state of global economy and the continuing dwindling allocation coming from the Centre, we have committed a very huge resources in infrastructural development, ICT development through Kwara learn, Local and Foreign scholarship, Bursaries, Training and human capital development, establishment of Kwara State Education Transformation Agenda (KWETA) among others, he said.

In her remark, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Adamu Jamila Bake, said the  programme will proffer strategies to foster educational development for Youths through appropriate scholarship system and supportive social actions geared towards the sustainable development.

Further more, the Chevening programme includes plenty of extracurricular activities and volunteering opportunities designed to develop international leadership and expertise. Many Chevening alumni have gone on to become highly successful figures in business, industry and politics.

She reiterate that the Ministry of Youth development was established with mandate to promote the physical, mental, and socio-economic development of Youth through provision of opportunities for self actualization.

Mrs Bake assured the youth that Governo AbdulRazaq takes the interest of the Youth at heart, evidence which manifest with the creation of a full fledge Ministry of Youth development in the State.

Senior Political Adviser to British High Commission, Abuja, Mr Wale Adebajo, said Chevening scholarship is fully funded scholarship by the Government of United Kingdom.

According to him, the UK Government covered all expenses for all successful applicants, this includes, visa fee, ticket, grant, accommodation, allowance, and others.

Programme Officer for Chevening, Mrs Oluwafunmilayo Ladejo, said Chevening Scholarship was established in 1983 by the UK Government, and Nigerians joined in 1984 as beneficiaries.

She explained that Chevening scholarship was designed to develop international leadership and expertise, she noted that Chevening had over 50,000 alumni globally which helps in networking.

She However, encouraged all the participants at the one-day workshop to take advantage of the opportunity to explore and make international collections.
