Cabinet Reshuffle: President Tinubu Announces Sweeping Changes In Ministerial Assignments

All aforementioned changes take immediate effect by these directives of the President.

President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for the reassignment of Engr. Abubakar Momoh from his current role in the Federal Ministry of Youth to a pivotal position within the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development.

This is contained in a statement on Sunday evening, August 20, by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale said the Federal Ministry of Youth is to be re-assigned to a Minister-Designate soon.

The Ministers-Designate allocated to the Federal Ministries of Transportation, Interior, and Marine & Blue Economy have been reshuffled as follows:

Adegboyega Oyetola is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue EconomyHon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Interior while Hon. Sa’idu Alkali is redeployed as the Honourable Minister of Transportation

Furthermore, both Ministers of State in the Oil & Gas sector are now domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources with the following designations, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri is the Hon. Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources while Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo is the Hon. Minister of State (Gas), Petroleum Resources

The President has given his endorsement for the renaming of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Ecological Management, which will now be officially known as the Federal Ministry of Environment.”

According to the statement, all aforementioned changes take immediate effect by these directives of the President.

The cabinet reshuffle took place following a call from Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative BBYDI urging President Tinubu to reconsider his decision, particularly with regard to portfolios that have a direct impact on the youth.

Afrika Eyes reports that on Saturday, August 19, BBYDI appealed to President Tinubu to reconsider the current appointment and take proactive measures to appoint more young individuals to key positions within his administration.

The statement read: “We urge the government to initiate a genuine dialogue with youth representatives and organisations to understand their needs, aspirations, and concerns. By actively involving the youth in policy discussions and implementation, the government can foster a sense of ownership and collaboration, leading to a brighter future for all.”
