BREAKING: US-Nigerian Airstrikes Kill 20 ISIS Fighters In Borno
The latest strikes targeted insurgents in the general area of Metele, Borno State, following intelligence reports indicating the movement and convergence of terrorist elements.
Abuja, Nigeria– The Defence Headquarters has announced that no fewer than 20 fighters belonging to the Islamic State-backed terrorist group have been eliminated in fresh coordinated airstrikes carried out in Nigeria’s North-East.
In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the military disclosed that the operation was conducted in close coordination with the United States Africa Command as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating in the region.
According to the statement, the latest strikes targeted insurgents in the general area of Metele, Borno State, following intelligence reports indicating the movement and convergence of terrorist elements.
“Multiple air strikes were conducted, resulting in the elimination of more than 20 ISIS/ISWAP fighters,” he said.
The Defence Headquarters noted that the operation comes on the heels of the recent neutralisation of a key ISIS commander, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, underscoring what it described as sustained offensives to degrade the operational capacity of the террорист group.
Military authorities said the intensified joint operations are designed to flush out remnants of the insurgents, deny them safe havens, and restore stability across affected communities in the North-East.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will continue to aggressively defend the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the nation,” Uba added.
It further warned that terrorists threatening Nigeria’s peace and security would be relentlessly pursued and eliminated.
“There will be no safe haven for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria,” the military declared.
The North-East region, particularly Borno State, has remained the epicentre of insurgency for over a decade, with renewed offensives signaling a possible escalation in coordinated international support for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations.
