Abuja, Nigeria– President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly of Nigeria.

According to details read during the budget presentation, the Federal Government earmarked ₦5.41 trillion for Defence and Security, the single largest allocation in the proposal.

Infrastructure followed with ₦3.56 trillion, while Education received ₦3.52 trillion.

The combined allocation for Health and Social Services stood at ₦2.48 trillion.

President Tinubu said the size of the defence allocation reflected the administration’s determination to tackle terrorism, banditry and other security threats crippling economic activity across several states.

As part of efforts to boost domestic food production and reduce inflationary pressure, the President disclosed that the Federal Government is targeting the cultivation of one million hectares of land by Nigerian farmers.

He said the programme would involve both smallholder and commercial farmers, supported by improved access to inputs, mechanisation and extension services.

Tinubu also projected improved government revenue in 2026, attributing the expectation to new tax laws recently passed by the National Assembly and ongoing reforms in the oil sector, including measures to curb leakages and improve production efficiency.
