BREAKING: Tinubu Approves Posting Of 65 Ambassadors As Reno Omokri Heads To Mexico, Fani-Kayode To Germany, Ex-INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu Gets Qatar

The list includes 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors who will head Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in different countries as well as at the United Nations.

Abuja, Nigeria– President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners to represent Nigeria across the world, including several controversial political figures and former public officials.

The list includes 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors who will head Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in different countries as well as at the United Nations.

Among the notable names are former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who has been posted to Mexico; former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, assigned to Germany; and former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, who has been posted to Qatar.

 

The development comes months after the Nigerian Senate confirmed the ambassadorial nominees in December.

Confirming the development on Friday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, released the full list of ambassadors and their designated missions.

According to the statement, the diplomatic postings include both political appointees and career foreign service officers who will serve as ambassadors and high commissioners in Nigeria’s foreign missions.

The following individuals were approved for postings as non-career ambassadors and high commissioners: Senator Grace Bent – Lome, Togo; Senator Ita Enang – South Africa; Ikpeazu Victor – Spain; Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu – Tel Aviv, Israel; Mahmood Yakubu – Qatar; Paul Oga Adikwu – The Vatican City (Holy See); Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas – The Philippines; Reno Omokri – Mexico City, Mexico; Hon. President Tinubu also approved the deployment of career diplomats to Nigeria’s missions abroad. The presidency also disclosed that some countries have already granted diplomatic approval—known as agrément—for the Nigerian envoys.

According to the statement, the United Kingdom has issued agrément for Ambassador-designate Aminu Dalhatu, who will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner in London.

Similarly, the government of France has granted agrément for Ambassador Ayodele Oke, who will represent Nigeria in Paris.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already transmitted the nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries, requesting the necessary diplomatic approvals in line with international diplomatic procedures.

President Tinubu also directed the Ministry to immediately begin the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to Nigeria’s foreign missions around the world.

The large-scale diplomatic postings come as the administration seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s international engagement and reposition its foreign policy across key global capitals.
