BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints 40-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina As New JAMB Registrar As Oloyede Bows Out 

Abuja, Nigeria– President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The appointment follows the completion of the second term of the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure is scheduled to officially end on July 31, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency through Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the new appointment is part of what the administration describes as continued efforts to strengthen institutional reforms in Nigeria’s education and examination sector.

Professor Segun Aina, who will turn 40 in July 2026, is widely described as a rising figure in Nigeria’s academic and technological space. He is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University.

His emergence as JAMB Registrar is already being described within policy circles as historic, as he becomes the youngest person to ever occupy the position in the Board’s history.

Aina is a specialist in systems engineering, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform, with a career spanning over 15 years in post-graduation experience across academia, consultancy, and public-sector advisory roles.

The new JAMB Registrar’s academic background spans three major institutions and multiple disciplines.

He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, followed by a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School, a credential often associated with senior public and private sector leadership training in Nigeria.

Professor Aina’s connection with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is not new.

He reportedly began his career exposure with the examination body during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he gained early experience in national admissions systems and data-driven institutional processes.

Those early experiences, according to his professional profile, helped shape his long-standing involvement in examination reform, digital transformation, and systems optimisation in Nigeria’s education sector.

Over the years, Professor Aina has served as a consultant to several examination and regulatory bodies in Nigeria, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), as well as multiple State Ministries of Education.

In these roles, he has been involved in ICT system design, examination integrity frameworks, and digital process optimisation aimed at reducing malpractice and improving efficiency in examination administration.

He is also a member of several professional bodies, reflecting his multidisciplinary engineering and policy credentials. These include: Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) COREN, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) IEEE and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to the official statement, expects the new appointee to consolidate and expand on reforms already undertaken by the outgoing registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.

The statement emphasized that the administration is counting on Aina’s technical expertise and institutional experience to elevate the performance of the examination body.

The Presidency noted:“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor.”

Meanwhile,  Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who has overseen major reforms in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board during his tenure, is expected to complete his second term by July 31, 2026, paving the way for a formal transition to the incoming registrar.

His tenure has been widely associated with digital reforms and examination process restructuring within the board.
