Ilorin,  Kwara State– At least 10 local vigilantes, including forest guards, were killed and five others abducted when suspected terrorists attacked Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday morning.

Sources told Afrika Eyes that the attackers stormed the community in large numbers and engaged the vigilantes in a fierce confrontation.

In a video obtained by Afrika Eyes, lifeless bodies of the slain vigilantes were seen lying in pools of blood while grieving relatives and residents wailed over the tragedy.

“We don’t know why Nigerian soldiers were withdrawn. We learnt that 10 persons were killed and five kidnapped. The situation is now terrible,” a community source lamented.

Confirming the incident, the Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the killings as “devastating beyond words” in a message shared to a WhatsApp group.

“This is sad. Devastating beyond words. Pls be patient. It could have been worse without the effort of the forest guards. Three guards died, one got injured. Many of the attackers also died.”

Meanwhile, the latest attack has heightened fears in Kwara State communities battling with rising insecurity and repeated assaults by armed groups.

Afrika Eyes had earlier reported that armed bandits struck again in Tsaragi community of Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State, abducting a businessman identified as Suleiman Ndana, popularly known as “Manager,” around midnight on Saturday.

Afrika Eyes gathered that the incident occurred around midnight when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community, firing sporadically into the air to instill fear and disperse residents.

Witnesses say the attackers appeared to have carefully planned the operation, heading straight for Mr. Ndana’s residence before whisking him away to an unknown destination.

A source within the community told Afrika Eyes that the businessman was specifically targeted by the abductors.

According to the source, Ndana recently built a new fuel station in Yana Kokonna, Tsaragi, which may have drawn the attention of criminal elements.

“I can tell you that the attack happened around 12 a.m. The gunmen came in large numbers, shooting into the air, and went directly for Manager. Their target was clearly him. They took him away, and since then, there has been no word on his whereabouts,” the source revealed.
