Abuja, Nigeria– The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday dismissing all three appeals seeking to overturn the election of Sheriff Oborevwori as the governor of Delta State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced the victory of Oborevwori from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.

However, dissatisfied with the results, the three opposing parties took the matter to court. Despite Oborevwori securing victories at the tribunal and the appeal court, the legal battle proceeded to the Supreme Court.

In the apex court, the previous judgments were upheld, confirming Oborevwori’s success in the Delta governorship. The Supreme Court initially dismissed Ovie Omo-Agege’s appeal, which aimed to overturn Governor Oborevwori’s election.

The court ruled that the appellant failed to substantiate allegations of over-voting and noncompliance with electoral laws.

Meanwhile, other appeals were dismissed on grounds of lacking merit, thereby affirming Governor Oborevwori’s election from the PDP. The court made no cost awards, and the judgment was unanimous.

The Supreme Court’s decision aligned with that of the lower courts, which had concluded that the appellants could not substantiate the allegations of noncompliance outlined in their petition.
