BREAKING: Supreme Court Upholds Sanwo-Olu’s Victory

The court ruled unanimously, dismissing the appeal filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour

Abuja, Nigeria– The Supreme Court has affirmed the legitimacy of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governor of Lagos State.

The court ruled unanimously, dismissing the appeal filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party governorship candidate, challenging the previous decision of the Appeal Court.

The Apex Court declared that Rhodes-Vivour’s appeal lacked merit, emphasizing that the acquisition of US citizenship does not disqualify an individual from running for governorship. The panel emphasized that being a citizen of Nigeria by birth is the determining factor for eligibility.

In light of this decision, the attempt by the Labour Party to overturn the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Governorship Election in Lagos State has failed.

Sanwo-Olu and his deputy remain in office, as the Supreme Court’s ruling settles the legal dispute surrounding their qualifications and the electoral outcome.
