BREAKING: PDP Suspends Anyanwu, Three Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

According to the party, the suspension takes immediate effect, and the affected officers are barred from performing their official duties during the period.

Abuja, Nigeria– The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday suspended its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and three other top officials for alleged anti-party activities.

Also affected by the suspension are the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha.

The decision, announced after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, comes barely 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja halted the party’s planned national elective convention scheduled for November 15.

In a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party said the officials violated several provisions of its constitution.

“National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, are suspended for one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee,” the statement read.

According to the party, the suspension takes immediate effect, and the affected officers are barred from performing their official duties during the period.

The statement added that, in line with Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, will act as National Secretary pending the outcome of the disciplinary process.

Similarly, the National Director of Legal Services has been directed to oversee the legal department following the suspension of the National Legal Adviser and his deputy.

“During this period of the suspension, they cease to function in their respective capacities.

“In the case of the National Secretary, Pursuant to Section 36(2) of our Party Constitution as amended in 2017, the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo shall act as the National Secretary.

“In the case of the National Legal Adviser and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, the National Director of Legal Services is hereby directed to oversees the activities of the Department.”
