Sources told Afrika Eyes that the armed men stormed Oloruntele on Saturday afternoon and whisked the community leader away to an unknown destination.

Ilorin, Kwara State– Residents of Kwara State have been thrown into fresh panic following the abduction of the Baale of Oloruntele community by suspected bandits, less than 24 hours after a monarch was kidnapped in a nearby area.

Sources told Afrika Eyes that the armed men stormed Oloruntele on Saturday afternoon and whisked the community leader away to an unknown destination.

“The terrorists kidnapped the Baale this afternoon,” a local source said. “As I’m speaking with you, it has not even been up to an hour since he was taken.”

The latest incident comes barely a day after the reported abduction of a monarch in Olayinka community, located in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, raising serious concerns about worsening insecurity in the region.

Residents say the repeated attacks on traditional rulers have created fear and uncertainty, with many calling on security agencies to act swiftly.

“This is getting out of hand. Our leaders are no longer safe, and the entire community is living in fear,” another resident lamented.

The wave of kidnappings in Kwara has intensified in recent months, with locals urging the government to deploy more security personnel and strengthen surveillance across vulnerable communities.

Afrika Eyes had earlier reported that suspected bandits have abducted a newly installed traditional ruler, his wife, and another individual in a brazen overnight attack on a palace in Olayinka community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, has heightened fears over the growing wave of insecurity targeting traditional institutions in Kwara South.

Sources told Afrika Eyes that the armed assailants stormed the palace at about 1:40 a.m., firing sporadically before whisking away the monarch and two others to an unknown destination.

Confirming the attack, a local source said, “Yes, it happened at Olayinka at about 1 a.m. His wife and one other person were also abducted. The monarch is one of those recently graded.”
