Ibadan, Oyo State– The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has joined his ancestors.
Tribune report that the monarch passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, just two days after marking his 90th birthday.
Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne in July 2024 and was officially presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024.
He became the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, one of Nigeria’s most revered traditional institutions.
His reign, though brief, was marked by his commitment to unity, peace, and cultural preservation in Ibadanland.
Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin was a respected elder statesman and ascended the throne from the Balogun Olubadan line, following the death of his predecessor, Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who passed away on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.
