Abuja, NigeriaTajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has decided to withdraw the contentious Counter Subversion Bill.

In a statement released by Musa Abdullahi Krishi, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, on Wednesday, Abbas announced: “In response to public outcry and concerns, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., has opted to withdraw the Counter Subversion Bill and associated draft legislation.

“This decision comes after extensive consultations with various stakeholders and careful consideration of the current national climate.

“Speaker Abbas Tajudeen remains dedicated to listening to the people and fostering unity, ensuring that the House stays aligned with the interests of its citizens.

“He recognizes the gravity of the concerns raised about the bill and reaffirms his commitment to actions that uphold the nation’s peace and unity.

“The public is hereby informed of the withdrawal of the Counter Subversion Bill and related legislation introduced on July 23, 2024.”
