Ikeja, Lagos State– Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda has been appointed the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following the impeachment of her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Meranda, who previously served as the Deputy Speaker, was unanimously elected to lead the Assembly in a swift transition.
The impeachment of Obasa, a former Speaker who had held the position for several years, came after a series of allegations and investigations into his conduct, leading to his removal by a majority vote in the Assembly.
He is among other things, alleged to have recklessly spent N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex.
Obasa has also been accused of being contemptuous of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
