BREAKING: Kwara North Is Bleeding’: Take It Back Movement, Youths Storm Government House Over Killings, Kidnappings In Five LGAs

Our region is under attack. Kwara North needs protection, not abandonment.

Ilorin,  Kwara State — Members of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement alongside concerned youths from Kwara North on Thursday marched to the Government House in Ilorin, protesting over incessant attacks, kidnappings and senseless killings ravaging communities in Edu, Patigi Local Government Area and other parts of the senatorial district.

The protesters, carrying placards with bold inscriptions, accused the Kwara State Government of neglecting the worsening security crisis in the region, declaring that residents of Edu Local Government Area are living under siege.

Chanting solidarity songs as they advanced toward the Government House, the demonstrators insisted that communities from Gbugbu to Woro have become flashpoints of violence, with families allegedly going to bed in fear of attacks by armed bandits.

“Our region is under attack. Kwara North needs protection, not abandonment,” one of the placards read.

Another placard stated: “If Ilorin can host corps members, it can also host IDPs. Stop shifting the burden to insecure communities.”

The protesters said their action was not an attempt to create unrest but a desperate cry for help in the face of rising bloodshed.

“Protest is not chaos—it is a call for attention to the suffering in Kwara North,” one of the youth leaders declared during the march.

They described the situation in Woro and Gbugbu as tragic, alleging that repeated attacks have left families devastated and entire communities traumatized.

“The Woro massacre and Gbugbu attacks cannot be ignored. Kwara North is bleeding. The government must act now,” another placard read.

According to the protesters, bandit attacks, kidnappings and killings have become the “new normal” in parts of Kwara North, with gunshots reportedly echoing through communities at night.

“The people of Kwara North in Kwara State are living in fear. Night after night, gunshots, kidnappings, and killings have become the new normal. How long will communities in Kwara North continue to suffer in silence?” one protester said.

They further alleged that residents of Edu Local Government Area are under siege.

“From Gbugbu to Woro, kidnappings and killings continue while families sleep in fear. Security must be strengthened immediately before more lives are lost,” the group said.

The demonstrators demanded urgent deployment of reinforced security personnel, improved intelligence gathering, and what they termed “real security solutions” tailored to the peculiar challenges of Kwara North.

“Youths of Kwara North are speaking with one voice: Security for our people is non-negotiable,” another placard read.

They also warned against relocating displaced persons into what they described as unsafe zones without first guaranteeing adequate protection.

“The government must prioritize protecting lives in Kwara North before relocating displaced persons into insecure communities,” the protesters stated.

Decrying the official silence, the youths insisted that accountability must take precedence over political rhetoric.

“Kwara North youths are demanding accountability and real security solutions,” they said.

“Enough is enough! Rising killings in Kwara North must stop. Our people deserve safety and justice.”

The protesters maintained that the continued attacks in Edu Local Government Area and across Kwara North amount to a humanitarian emergency that requires immediate and decisive government intervention.
