BREAKING: INEC Amends Election Timetable, Fixes January 16, 2027 For Presidential, National Assembly Polls

Abuja, Nigeria- The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially amended the timetable for the 2027 general elections, fixing January 16, 2027 as the new date for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The announcement was made on Thursday in Abuja by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement released to the press.
According to Haruna, the Commission reached the decision after extensive internal consultations and strategic planning aimed at ensuring a smoother, more transparent, and better-coordinated electoral process across the country.
Under the revised timetable, Nigerians will head to the polls on Saturday, January 16, 2027, to elect the President, members of the Senate, and members of the House of Representatives.
The Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections have been scheduled to follow three weeks later, on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
