BREAKING: Ex-Power Minister Saleh Mamman Jailed 75 Years Over N33.8bn Fraud, Money Laundering
The court sentenced the former minister to seven years imprisonment each on 10 counts, while he received three years and two years imprisonment respectively on counts four and five.
Abuja, Nigeria- A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment over a N33.8 billion money laundering and fraud case prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Justice James Omotosho convicted Mamman on all 12 counts filed against him by the anti-graft agency after finding him guilty of diverting public funds and laundering billions of naira while serving as minister.
The court sentenced the former minister to seven years imprisonment each on 10 counts, while he received three years and two years imprisonment respectively on counts four and five.
Justice Omotosho ruled that the prison terms would run consecutively, effectively amounting to 75 years behind bars, and held that the convict would not have the option of a fine on most of the counts.
However, the judge granted an option of a N10 million fine on count four.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of several assets linked to the former minister, including foreign currencies recovered during investigations and four high-value properties in Abuja traced to him.
Mamman, who served under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, was prosecuted following allegations that billions meant for power sector projects were diverted through suspicious financial transactions and proxy accounts.
