Maiduguri,  Borno State– An explosion rocked a mosque in Maiduguri during  prayers, killing several worshippers and injuring others in Gamborun Market area of Borno state.

It was gathered that the devastating blast occurred in the heart of the market while faithful Muslims were gathered for prayers.

A top security expert and counter-insurgency analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the tragic incident to our reporters.

He stated that the explosive device detonated inside the mosque, tearing through the structure and instantly killing an unspecified number of worshippers.

He explained that as thick, dark smoke billowed from the shattered mosque, traders and residents in the bustling market area fled in all directions, fearing a secondary explosion.

Security operatives were quick to descend on the area, cordoning off the scene to prevent further casualties and to conduct a preliminary assessment of the situation.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of fatalities and injured persons has not been officially confirmed by the Borno State Police Command.
