BREAKING: Bandits Lay Siege To Kwara Community, Shoot Two Residents, Block Only Access Road As Victims Left Without Medical Care

Ilorin,  Kwara State– Terrorists suspected to be bandits on Friday invaded Lata Nna, a rural community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, shooting two residents and blocking the only motorable road leading into and out of the village, leaving the injured stranded without access to medical treatment.

Residents who spoke to Afrika Eyes described the attack as the latest in a series of violent assaults that have plunged the community into fear and isolation.

A resident told Afrika Eyes that the attackers established a blockade on the community’s only access road shortly after invading the village, effectively cutting off Lata Nna from neighbouring communities and emergency services.

According to the source, the two victims were shot while returning to the village from a journey.

“Two residents were shot while returning to the village. Because the road was sealed off by the attackers, the injured could not be evacuated for medical attention. Their current condition remains severe, but the denial of access to urgent medical care has placed their lives in grave danger,” the source said.

Residents said the blockade prevented anyone from entering or leaving the community, leaving the wounded without medical attention.

A gory photograph obtained by Afrika Eyes showed one of the victims with a hand that appeared to have been severely damaged by gunfire.

The source further disclosed that earlier on Friday, two other villagers were attacked while collecting leaves behind the village.

“The bandits robbed them at gunpoint, collected cash and seized their mobile phone before allowing them to leave,” the resident said.

According to community members, the latest attack has left Lata Nna under what they described as a complete siege.

The blockade of the only motorable road means food supplies, medicines, security personnel and emergency responders cannot access the community, while residents are also unable to flee to safety.

The latest assault comes barely a month after another violent incident in which five residents of Lata Nna were abducted by suspected bandits.

According to residents, two of the kidnapped victims later died while in captivity under circumstances that remain unclear.

The remaining three victims were reportedly released on Friday after their families paid substantial ransom to secure their freedom.

Residents said the recurring attacks demonstrate that criminal gangs continue to operate freely around Patigi Local Government Area despite repeated appeals for security intervention.

They warned that the pattern of kidnappings, ransom demands, killings and renewed attacks suggests that Lata Nna has become a repeated target of armed criminal groups.

“This is no longer an isolated incident,” a community member said.

“About a month ago, five of our people were kidnapped. Two of them died in captivity, while the remaining three regained their freedom today after heavy ransom payments. Now, on the very day they returned, our village is again under attack.”

The residents expressed frustration over the absence of adequate security measures despite repeated attacks on the community.

They appealed to both the Kwara State Government and the Federal Government to urgently deploy a permanent military presence to Lata Nna and surrounding communities to halt the persistent attacks.

“Our community has been cut off completely. We cannot move in or out because the only road has been blocked by armed bandits. Our injured people cannot reach the hospital, and nobody can come in to help us,” another resident told Afrika Eyes.

“We urgently appeal to the Kwara State Government and the Federal Government to establish a permanent military base here before more innocent lives are lost. We cannot continue living under constant attacks.”

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not issued any official statement regarding the latest attack.
