BREAKING: Bandits Abduct Imam, Local Vigilante, Son Along Oke-Ode–Babanla Road In Kwara

The incident, according to local sources, occurred on Sunday night, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in communities across the area.

Ilorin,  Kwara State- Terrorists suspected to be bandits have reportedly abducted an imam, a local security operative, and his son along the Oke-Ode–Babanla road in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident, according to local sources, occurred on Sunday night, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in communities across the area.

Sources who spoke with Afrika Eyes said the victims were travelling from Oke-Ode to Babanla when the armed men ambushed them and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

“An Imam from Babanla and a local security officer in the community were travelling with his son, identified as Fawas, from Oke-Ode to Babanla on Sunday night when kidnappers attacked them and took them away,” a source familiar with the incident said.

Residents of the communities have since expressed fear over the growing activities of suspected kidnappers operating along rural roads in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown, while it was unclear whether the abductors had contacted the family or demanded ransom.

Afrika Eyes had earlier reported that suspected terrorists believed to be bandits on Saturday night invaded Ndeji village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State and abducted a housewife alongside her son.

Residents told Afrika Eyes that the armed men stormed the village late in the night, firing sporadically before whisking away their victims to an unknown destination.

The latest incident has created fear among residents of communities in Edu Local Government Area, where cases of kidnapping and banditry have been on the rise in recent months.

Residents have repeatedly called on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify security presence in the area to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.
