BREAKING: ADC Secretariat Set Ablaze In Ekiti As Party Alleges Political Intimidation
The incident was said to have occurred overnight.
Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State– The Secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State has been set ablaze by suspected hoodlums, in what the party described as a politically motivated attack aimed at intimidating its growing influence in the state.
A video posted by the ADC on its official Facebook page on Tuesday showed the party’s building completely razed, with thousands of plastic chairs and other valuables destroyed in the inferno.
The incident was said to have occurred overnight.
In a statement released shortly after the attack, the party condemned the incident, calling it a “cowardly act” by those threatened by ADC’s rising popularity and organizational strength in Ekiti politics.
“Our Party Secretariat was set ablaze this morning by those threatened by the rising momentum and formidable organisational structure that the Ekiti ADC is building,” the statement read.
“This cowardly act is most unfortunate, yet it will only fortify our determination and unity. The formidable Ekiti State ADC has come to stay.”
The party added that the attack coincided with the “Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony” of the Ekiti ADC Executives — from the Ward, Local Government, and Senatorial District levels to the State Executives — which was scheduled to hold on the same day.
“Our spirit remains unbroken; our vision, unstoppable,” the statement added.
The police have yet to release an official statement on the incident as investigations are said to be underway.
