Bank Staff Steals N18 Million In ATM Fraud Scheme; Police Arrest Card Fraudster In Katsina

Sadiq revealed that Abdullahi was a notorious fraudster, known for swapping ATM cards of unsuspecting individuals at ATM locations.

Katsina State- The Katsina State Police Command on Thursday paraded Adewumi Gabriel, the Head of ATM Operations at a new generation bank’s Daura branch, for conspiring with a colleague to steal N18 million from a customer’s account.

Adewumi confessed to working alongside David Mesioye, who is currently at large, using their insider knowledge of the bank’s operations to carry out the theft, which was uncovered during a routine audit.

The Katsina Police spokesperson, Mr Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the recovery of N10.18 million from Adewumi’s various bank accounts, in addition to N366,900 in physical cash and other valuables.

In a separate incident, Bishir Abdullahi, a 37-year-old resident of Sokoto State, was apprehended at an old generation bank’s ATM in Katsina with 14 stolen ATM cards in his possession.

Sadiq revealed that Abdullahi was a notorious fraudster, known for swapping ATM cards of unsuspecting individuals at ATM locations.

He further explained that the suspect was arrested by a police officer on duty at the bank’s Tudun Katsira quarters branch in the Katsina metropolis, after engaging in suspicious behavior around the ATM machine.

“Upon instant search, 14 suspected stolen ATM cards of different banks were found in his possession.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been using the stolen ATM cards to withdraw sums of money from his victims’ accounts.

“The total amount withdrawn by the suspect from the victims’ accounts is N2.705 million. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” he said.
