Bandits Strike Again In Kwara: Family Of Three Abducted In Broad Daylight, 15 Others Kidnapped Overnight As Local Rescue Efforts Fail

The latest incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Olodan community in the Ora District.

Ilorin,  Kwara State– Suspected terrorists, believed to be armed bandits, have launched fresh attacks on communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting a family of three in a brazen daytime operation and whisking away at least 15 others in coordinated overnight raids.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Olodan community in the Ora District.

Sources who spoke to Afrika Eyes disclosed that the victims abducted in Olodan were members of the same family — a husband, his wife, and their child — who were reportedly taken away by the assailants during the attack.

A source said, “There was kidnapping too at Olodan in Ora District this afternoon. Three people were involved — a family of three: husband, wife and child.”

The development came barely hours after another wave of kidnappings rocked nearby settlements.

According to multiple sources, no fewer than 15 residents were abducted overnight at Kajola and Idi-Iya Fulani Camp, communities located close to Yaru in the Igbaja District of the same local government area.

The coordinated nature of the attacks has heightened fears among locals, who say the assailants appear to be operating with little resistance while targeting vulnerable rural communities.

Efforts to rescue the victims, however, have so far been unsuccessful despite a joint operation involving local security outfits.

Sources revealed that a combined rescue team made up of Forest Guards, local hunters, and members of the Vigilante Group from Ifelodun and neighbouring Isin Local Government Areas combed surrounding forests throughout the day in search of the abducted victims.

A source familiar with the rescue efforts told Afrika Eyes that the mission yielded no positive results.

According to the source, “Efforts of the rescue team comprising Forest Guards, hunters and vigilante squad from Ifelodun and Isin LGAs throughout the day proved abortive.”

Residents of the affected communities have expressed deep frustration over repeated security breaches, calling on the Kwara State Government and federal security agencies to urgently intervene and halt the growing wave of abductions in the region.

The attacks add to a troubling pattern of insecurity in parts of Kwara State, particularly in Kwara South where residents have increasingly become soft targets for kidnappers and armed groups.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incidents, while the whereabouts of the abducted victims remain unknown.
