Bandits Open Fire On Worshippers In Kaduna Mosque

The leader of the local vigilante group in the village was among the victims who lost their lives within the mosque.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked worshipers in a Mosque at Saya-Saya village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna state on Friday, September 1, killing at least seven Muslims on the spot.

It was gathered that the worshipers were engaged in their Isha’i (Sunset) prayers within the mosque when the gunmen launched their attack, five of the victims were mercilessly gunned down inside the mosque, while two others lost their lives at separate locations within the vicinity.

Confirming the incident, the Village Head, Malam Abdulrahaman Yusuf, sadly disclosed that the leader of the local vigilante group in the village was among the victims who lost their lives within the mosque.

“We suspected they traced him (vigilante boss) to the mosque to attack him. We were inside the mosque praying when they arrived and started shooting. Five persons were killed at the mosque, while a driver who brought food items to the village was also killed. The other person was killed at a nearby village” he said.

He stated that security agencies, including soldiers and police officers from Ikara town and the Palgore area, arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m. but by that time, the bandits had already fled the village.

Confirming the incident, Mansir Alhassan, the acting Public Relations Officer of the state police command, indicated that security forces had been promptly mobilized to the adjacent areas in order to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.

He explained that the police and other security agencies were not alerted to the attack until after the assailants had already departed from the area.
