Bandits Kill Driver, Abduct Zamfara LG Director, Councillor In Broad Daylight Attack
The attack reportedly occurred around 11:20 a.m. on May 18, 2026, near Jangebe District, when the heavily armed assailants blocked the road and opened fire on commuters and motorists passing through the area.
Gusau, Zamfara State– Armed bandits have killed a driver, abducted two local government officials and injured another person during a broad daylight attack along Tashar Lawali Road in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack reportedly occurred around 11:20 a.m. on May 18, 2026, near Jangebe District, when the heavily armed assailants blocked the road and opened fire on commuters and motorists passing through the area.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the gunmen intercepted a vehicle conveying officials of the local government council before carrying out the attack.
Among those abducted were Jamilu Sani, the Director of Planning in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, and Muslimu Habibu, a councillor representing Jangebe Ward.
A staff member of the Hajj Affairs Unit in the local government, Samaila Ladan, sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand during the attack. He was later rescued by security operatives and rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Lawali Hakimi, was reportedly shot dead at the scene by the attackers.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that combined security teams, including personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military and members of the Community Protection Guards (CPG), were immediately deployed to the area after receiving a distress call.
Zagazola said security operatives had since launched combing operations around the area in an effort to rescue the abducted victims and track down the attackers.
Authorities also confirmed that patrol activities had been intensified across the axis to prevent further attacks and reassure residents following the latest incident.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent assaults linked to armed bandit groups operating across Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West region, where kidnappings, killings and attacks on communities have continued despite ongoing military operations.
