Sokoto State— No fewer than four soldiers were killed in an ambush by bandits in the Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

It was gathered that two others were also injured during the attack which occurred this weekend.

The member representing Gudu in the State House of Assembly, Yahya Gudu, confirmed the attack, stating that the assailants set fire to two patrol vehicles belonging to the operatives.

“Yes, it’s true. Some gunmen ambushed soldiers on patrol along the Kukurau-Bangi road on Saturday, killing four of them and injuring two others. They also burned down their patrol vehicles,” he said.

Describing the incident as disheartening, Gudu said that after informing Governor Ahmed Aliyu about the attack, reinforcements were promptly dispatched to the area.

A resident, speaking on the condition of anonymity, reported seeing the bandits pass through their area on 20 motorcycles.

“Each motorcycle had two well-armed bandits. They didn’t harm or kidnap anyone in our community. They just passed through, and the next thing we heard were gunshots.

“We later found out they had laid an ambush for the security operatives patrolling the area, killing four of them. Their bodies were recovered by their colleagues.

“About a week ago, the bandits killed seven people in our community while pursuing vigilantes. They are still hiding in that bush.

“There is a stream where they meet and discuss every day. We inform the security operatives about their presence, but they haven’t been responsive. Maybe because the bandits are using more sophisticated weapons,” he said.
