Azeez Adisa-Jaji Joins Kwara Assembly Race, Says Politics Should Serve Society, Not Personal Ambition
Politics is and should be nothing other than benefitting the society and the people that live in it. It is a systematic approach that will, if organized well, aid and speed the development and growth of our individual society
Ilorin, Kwara State — A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Azeez Adisa-Jaji, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Ilorin North-West Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The young and vibrant politician also criticised the current legislative representation as ineffective and disconnected from the people.
Adisa-Jaji made the declaration during a well-attended political gathering held at the PDP Secretariat in Alanamu Ward on Saturday, April 4, 2026, where party faithful, youth leaders and grassroots mobilizers gathered to witness what observers described as an early signal of intense political activity in the constituency.
The aspirant emphasised that politics must serve as a tool for societal development and not merely a platform for personal ambition.
“Politics is and should be nothing other than benefitting the society and the people that live in it. It is a systematic approach that will, if organized well, aid and speed the development and growth of our individual society – most especially the people and environment of Ilorin North-West constituency of Alanamu Ward, Ilorin-West Kwara State,” he said.
Adisa-Jaji did not mince words in his assessment of the performance of the current representative of the constituency, describing the legislative record as disappointing and lacking relevance.
“In the history of our participation in politics and democracy, it is obvious that the people of Alanamu Ward had not experienced political representation this worse before. A representation where no bill was sponsored from our own representative, where there is no record of legislative relevance, a representation of ‘Yes Yes’ to the executive as against the nature of authority and independence of the Kwara State House of Assembly. Indeed we never in the past had it this worse,” he stated.
He stressed that the legislative arm of government must not be passive but proactive in lawmaking that promotes social and economic development.
“The functions and authority of the legislative arm hover around making laws that are people and societal friendly, making laws that will enhance ease of trading and thriving, laws that recognize the unity of the people of Kwara State, laws that will enable the people of Ilorin North-West Alanamu constituency be recognized amongst its peers as significant,” he explained.
The PDP aspirant also raised concerns about the security situation affecting residents of the constituency, arguing that lawmakers must actively support the executive arm through legislative initiatives that strengthen safety and social order.
“Security is one of the major challenges facing our people and it is deemed to be the exclusive role of the executive but a government is made up of different departments acting as one. The Assembly should pass bills that would help in mitigating the problem and not sit and be lukewarm,” he said.
According to him, democratic values must revolve around effective leadership, strong followership and genuine concern for humanity.
“For a system to thrive politically, the approaches that must be brought to bear have to share the same features of democratic values which hover around qualitative representation, effective leadership, followers’ prowess and love for humanity,” Adisa-Jaji said.
Adisa-Jaji reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party despite political pressures and internal challenges, noting that the party’s ideological foundation aligns with his commitment to democratic participation and social justice.
“It is not a mistake that I have chosen to remain in the PDP even when it seemed the road was rough. It is the connection between the Party’s attributes and democracy. The PDP Alanamu Ward shared values with the national PDP which shared the core values of our amiable principal, His Excellency, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki,” he said.
He added that opposition narratives would not undermine his political convictions or contributions to community development.
“The mischief narratives of the opposition or people of interest will not refute my respect for political participation, independence and vindication. It will not also cover my impacts in the constituency, Kwara and nation building,” he said.
Highlighting his background in student activism and leadership, Adisa-Jaji described himself as an advocate for social justice and democratic equity who understands the dynamics of governance and public service.
“I am Azeez Adisa-Jaji with vast and tested experience in leadership and followership. I am a notable member of Kokoro Kan Zone of Alanamu Ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State and I am a well known Kwaran reputed for advocating for social justice and democratic equity,” he stated.
He referenced his role in leading the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), noting that the experience provided insight into societal challenges and governance structures.
“I have in the previous years in my previous positions which cut across heading the most revered indigenous student body of Kwara State coordinated myself in the understanding of the society, the will of the people and the influence of societal laws with respect to human interactions,” he added.
Adisa-Jaji recalled that he previously sought the PDP ticket in 2023 but accepted the party’s decision and supported its chosen candidate, describing his latest ambition as a continuation of his commitment to the constituency.
“In 2023 I presented myself to represent our noble constituency but the party deemed otherwise and as a committed party man, I abided by the decision of the party and rallied support for our candidate. The rest as they say is history. Another chance to right our wrong beckons,” he said.
Formally declaring his ambition, he announced: “I humbly express my declaration to contest as a member representing Ilorin North-West Constituency of Kwara State House of Assembly in the year 2027 General Election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with direct guidance and support from the PDP members and executives in Alanamu Ward.”
Adisa-Jaji unveiled a three-point campaign philosophy centered on responsiveness to constituents and ethical political conduct.
“Without any contradiction to the founding principles of the Peoples Democratic Party under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, it is my emphasis that my campaign and actions will toe the phases of Masses, Matters and Manners.”
He explained that his legislative priorities would address key issues affecting residents while maintaining respect and transparency.
“I will be able to attend to the yearnings of the people of my constituency on their desirable matters, be it legislative which is my core function or outside it, in such manners that will further promote my constituency and the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Closing his speech, Adisa-Jaji appealed for unity among party members and urged stakeholders in Alanamu Ward to support his aspiration.
“Being the agent of change we are from our ward, representing the people who believe so much in our qualities and fitness, will you not agree with me that it is the time that we enmeshed our name again in the history of time as the one who changes the hand of time?”
Drawing a religious metaphor, he added: “Like the Ark that delivered Prophet Nuhu (Noah) to his settlement, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be my drive, it will remain my wing with which I will deliver the promises of democracy attached to the position I am contesting for.
“Your all kind of support and guidance towards the actualization of this ambition shall be highly and forever appreciated. Thank you.”
