Atiku Abubakar Condemns Rising Insecurity In Kwara, Urges Urgent Action After Oke-Ode Killings

Describing Kwara as a “gateway state,” Atiku stressed that its security must be prioritised to safeguard both its people and the wider region.

Abuja, Nigeria– Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the spate of armed attacks in Kwara State, describing the security situation as alarming and unacceptable.

Atiku’s reaction followed the recent killings in Oke-Ode, where bandits reportedly murdered innocent residents, including local vigilantes and the traditional ruler of Ogbayo community.

In a statement issued on Tuesday,  describing Kwara as a “gateway state,” Atiku stressed that its security must be prioritised to safeguard both its people and the wider region.

He urged security agencies and policy makers to act decisively to prevent insecurity from further spreading across Kwara and other parts of Nigeria.

Atiku stressed that protecting communities in Kwara and beyond is crucial in safeguarding national ststability.

The statement read,  “The tempo of armed attacks in some parts of Kwara State, and indeed in different parts of the country, is alarming.

“The recent being the reported tragic killings at Oke-Ode where innocent lives, including vigilantes and the traditional ruler of Ogbayo community, were killed by rampaging bandits.

“I wish to once again make a call to relevant security agencies and policy makers to not let the map of insecurity fester, as it seems.

“I would implore that all hands are on deck to ensure that our beloved Kwara State and its people are not just protected but also be the bulwark against a raging dark army of armed criminals.

“Kwara is a gateway, and we must fight for its safety,” he added.
