At Least 15 Persons Feared As Boat Capsizes In Adamawa

No fewer than fifteen persons are feared dead after a local boat conveying residents including children, capsized at Njuwa Lake near Rugange village in the Yola South Local Government area of Adamawa State.

It was gathered that the boat carrying the victims was en route to the main Yola town, where they were going about their daily local businesses, they encountered a severe windstorm that caused water to inundate their boat, leading to its immediate capsizing.

The local boat was reportedly carrying twenty passengers at the time of the incident, six persons were rescued through the efforts of local divers and the arrival of a larger boat at the scene.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, has confirmed the incident. He stated that rescue operations are currently underway to locate and rescue both the capsized canoe and the individuals who were on board.
