Appeal Court Orders ASUU To Call Off Strike
The Appeal Court in the nation’s capital, Abuja has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its strike immediately and return to the classroom.
The court said calling off the strike is the only condition for which the appeal being sought by the lecturers could be entertained by the court.
ASUU’s strike has entered its seventh month, with the nation’s universities shut and rendered redundant by the lecturers.
Ruling on the matter on Friday, the presiding judge, Justice Hamma Barka, ordered the lecturers to go back to work immediately.
Before the order of the court, telling the lecturers to resume work immediately, it had earlier told the Federal Government and ASUU to settle their dispute out of court.
The two parties failed to do so as ASUU’s lawyer, Femi Falana had told the court on Thursday that both the Federal Government and ASUU had failed to reach agreement to settle the case out of court.
