Abia Lawmaker Granted N500,000 Bail For Assaulting Bolt Driver
During the proceedings, the federal lawmaker pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Abuja, Nigeria- A magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail of N500,000 to Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, following an incident involving the assault of Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya.
Ikwechegh was arraigned on Wednesday on three counts related to assault and threats to life, with the charges brought forth by the office of the Inspector-General of Police.
During the proceedings, the federal lawmaker pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Earlier, Afrika Eyes reported that Stephen Abuwatseya, an Abuja-based bolt driver, has filed charges against Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives from Abia State, over an alleged assault incident.
Abuwatseya’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the court appearance, stating, “We are on our way to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honourable member who assaulted our client, Mr. Stephen, a Bolt driver.” Adeyanju also extended an invitation to the media to cover the arraignment scheduled for 12pm today at the Kuje Magistrate Court.
