Kidnappers Kill Ondo APC Chairman Despite ₦5m Ransom Payment

Akure, Ondo State- The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 5, Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, has been killed by his abductors despite the payment of a ₦5 million ransom and delivery of food items.

Adepoyigi was kidnapped from his residence in Ifon a few days ago, sparking fear across the local community.

Meanwhile, his captors initially demanded ₦100 million, negotiations brought the ransom down to ₦5 million along with food supplies.

However, Adepoyigi was not released. Instead, the kidnappers seized the two individuals who brought the ransom and demanded a fresh ₦30 million for the release of all three.

Only the two volunteers were eventually released, while Adepoyigi was reportedly killed by the criminals.

The Chairman of Ose Local Government, Hon. Barr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, confirmed the incident in a statement released by his media aide, Oluwaseun Ogunniyi, on Saturday.

“While we are grateful that the two volunteers have now regained their freedom, it is deeply saddening and utterly painful that the life of Nelson Adepoyigi was brutally cut short by his captors,” the statement read.

Ojo described the killing as part of a disturbing trend of insecurity plaguing the area.

“This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension,” he added.

He called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to combat rising criminal activities.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Police Command has yet to officially confirm the killing.
